If there is one thing that anyone with a clear view on life can’t bare to see, is that of a child being beaten and abused in every inhumane way.
Earlier this morning a video was sent to me by a friend saying how troubling it was for her when she saw this. I checked it out, curious as to what she was talking about, especially with the fact that she didn’t say anything else about it, I started playing it. Sure enough the video was blood boiling enough to watch as a nanny beat up the child she was supposed to take care.
In as much as we don’t want to think about it, the fact still remains that child abuse is common than anyone might think otherwise. This is but a sad truth that the society must face. For no reason at all kids are faced with this danger from their caregivers, relatives, even parents.
Child abuse has taken several forms:
1. Neglect
2. Physical abuse
3. Child sexual abuse
4. Psychological abuse
The first type, neglect, is done when the family is unable to provide the various needs of the child physically (e.g. Food, clothing and shelter), emotionally (love and care), and educational (sending the child to school). Abandonment is now defined as a form of neglect. This is the case when the parents’ whereabouts are unknown or if contact has not been maintained.
Child sexual abuse is perhaps one of the most staggering cases the whole world tries to get rid off. This involves sexual act between an adult and a child. Pedophiles are the adults involved in this act. There are times however that they even record their horrendous activities for monetary gain.
Psychological abuse hits on the child’s emotions. It involves belittling or embarrassing a child. One way of doing this is by giving the child inappropriate punishment that may make the child think that he is unloved and unaccepted.
Physical abuse is perhaps the first thing that pops into one’s head when we speak of child abuse. A child gains non-accidental injuries due to striking, hitting, chocking, etc. A mother intoxicating her child can also be considered as physical abuse.
In the video, the child’s caregiver suddenly thrust the child to the floor. As the child lie facing down the nanny places her whole weight on the child’s back—both her feet right at the child’s vertebrae. Not contented with it, she kicks the child’s head over and over. This was all caught on cam, hidden by the mother who was having suspicions on her hired help. What the caregiver did was clearly a physical abuse.
Background check company in information shows that in 1997 the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse stated that 54% represents neglect cases of child abuse, 22% for physical abuse, 8% for sexual abuse, 4% for psychological abuse and 12% for other maltreatment. Furthermore it has been said that United States and United Kingdom ranked lowest with giving respect to a child’s wellbeing. In the US, about 906,000 children are victims of such abusive factors.
Persons with history of child abuse live a troubled life especially as they grow into adulthood and sooner or later have families of their own. According to background check on the effects of persons who experience such events, they become more inclined to stress and abusive of drugs and alcohol. They also resolve quarrels through street fights and ponder on problems through domestic violence.
The child in the video is but one from the many who had suffered harshness at the hands of cruel adults. Let this be an eye opener that each must take a step in putting this to a stop before our future crumbles down to ruins.
